Appliqué / Tackle Twill Embroidery
One specific high-end embellishment Kustom Imprints offers is Appliqué or Tackle Twill Embroidery. Appliqué is individual cut pieces of twill fabric which are then sewn onto a garment around the edge. This process commonly used with lettering and specifically Greek letters sewn on fraternity or sorority sweatshirts. It’s also commonly used for sport team designs too.
Basic appliqué lettering
Every college Bookstore has prominently featured sweatshirts with their university’s initials sewn on the front of a sweatshirt. Appliqué letter sweatshirts are an absolute icon on university campuses and that retail look can be achieved for any school or organization. Kustom Imprints has all the equipment in-house to custom cut appliqué letters in hundreds of different font styles and then sew them directly to sweatshirts or whatever garment you think will look best. The twill lettering can be straight across, arched or twisted in any effect you desire.
Appliqué designs
You are not limited to just letters when sewing appliqué fabric pieces. Corporate logos, team designs, school mascots and several other graphical artwork options can also be custom cut from fabric and sewn onto sweatshirts, jackets or other items. As long as the design or logo is large and fairly basic, we should be able to vectorize the design, cut the fabric and sew on the design on to the garments.
Select your appliqué layers
The twill fabric that is custom cut and part of an embroidered appliqué design can be in a single layer or in 2 or 3 layers. Simpler appliqué designs are a single layer of fabric and are the least expensive. More complex designs require 2 or three layers of fabric on top of each other to achieve the appliqué design.
Select appliqué embroidery outline stitch type
Each custom cut appliqué fabric must be sewn directly to the garment. You have the option to sew the appliqué in either a zig-zag stitch or satin stitch. A zig zag stitch is usually done with the thread color matching the fabric whereas the satin stitch (which is a full solid line of embroidery) can be either the same color or a separate color to give the appliqué lettering or design a solid outline.
Select appliqué fabric type
The most common fabric that is custom cut into lettering or design shapes and placed on garments is a poly-twill fabric. This fabric comes in 25 different solid colors is also often called tackle twill fabric too . It has a satin sheen and is extremely tough. The fabric is frequently used for professional and collegiate sports uniforms for their individual names and numbers. Beyond poly-twill or tackle twill, we can do other appliqué fabrics including felt, faux suede, flock, glitter, metallic and safety reflective materials. Additionally, in twills many pattern options like polka dots, argyle, leopard skin, camouflage,
Pricing is better than you think
For retail stores, appliqué is priced out at a premium. However when you place a bulk order of appliqué sweatshirts or jackets, the cost actually is quite good. The cost of appliqué does depend on the number of fabric layers, the size of the design, the type of embroidery stitch around the edge and the quantity of items. Send us your ideas and we can quote you for your appliqué of tackle twill project.
